Ash Gray - Venom Prison

About Ash Gray

Having first pummelled the jugular of the underground with their self-released demo “Defy The Tyrant” in 2015, VENOM PRISON continued to tear their way through the UK and European underground with the “The Primal Chaos” 7-inch.

Having previously shared the stage with bands such as Suicide Silence, Abbath, Hatebreed, Anaal Nathrakh, Full of Hell, Dragged Into Sunlight, The Black Dahlia Murder and more, VENOM PRISON delivers a punishing blend of death metal that makes most landslides look lightweight.

The band’s debut full-length Animus released on Prosthetic Records (Skeletonwitch) in 2016 drew the comparison to fellow lifers Napalm Death, Cryptopsy and Cattle Decapitation. Recorded by Tom Dring at Vagrant Recordings (Dragged Into Sunlight, Electric Wizard), “Animus” is 10 tracks of aural assaulting brutality. VENOM PRISON tackle subjects such as social Darwinism, misogyny, rape culture and portray various forms of fighting an oppressive force. The artwork for “Animus” was created by German-based legendary artist, Eliran Kantor (Testament, Sigh, Soulfly) who worked closely with Larissa to capture some of the themes of the album. The recording was lauded by the press, setting a benchmark for a powerful performance and extreme sound.

Described as “Revved up piece of horrific beauty, allowing you to satiate yourself on the very worst of society” (Metalhammer) and feeding off uncontrollable rage Animus was repressed on Prosthetic Records in 2017.

This beautifully crafted machine powers the low end, tightness and clarity I have been searching for. The HT-Metal was the missing piece to my tone.
