I have just bought a used Artisan 30H in a private sale. Sounded great for a few moments but now there is a pronounced background noise, a crackly hum that I'd present even without a guitar plugged in. Also notes seem to crackle as they decay when you play through it. The noise seems more pronounced in 10w mode.
Can anyone suggest where to start or what might be the cause? Is it likely to be a valve problem (hope so). I was so looking forward to getting the amp! Thanks.

It could be a number of things, but if you have a spare set of tubes you can swap to test. Preamps would be plug and play, power tubes would require biasing. However if you have a known good set to test, you can at least narrow down the issue.
