Job Opportunities

Internal Sales Support
Account management and telesales for Blackstar’s UK dealer network. You will keep regular contact by phone with key UK customers. Your call plan will encompass order taking, stock confirmation and support. In addition, you will liaise with our UK sales and marketing team to assist with promotional communication to our dealer network.
Main Activities / Tasks:
  • Build close working relationships with Blackstar’s UK dealers and provide excellent customer service.
  • Pro-active sales calls to all of Blackstar’s UK Dealers in support of the Area Sales Managers.
  • Field incoming telephone and email enquiries from UK dealers and general customers.
  • Monitor sell-through of stock in line with the Blackstar Business Plan.
  • Make marketing support calls relating to product promotions and promoting other Blackstar activities i.e. webcasts, arranging appointments for the Blackstar
  • product demonstrator and in store promotions.
  • Receive and process orders.
  • Maintain dealer stock reports.
  • Stock level monitoring and reporting of DIST-X brands.
  • Administration and production of business documents e.g. meeting minutes, sales reports.
  • Regular reporting to the sales and marketing team.
  • Spotting trends and requirements at store level and feeding back ideas and proposals to further enhance Blackstar’s success.
  • Have a flexible approach to duties and work and in particular adopt a teamwork style with other departments and activities across Blackstar. This may involve
    undertaking duties in support of the other departments outside normal working hours.
Essential Skills:
  • GCSEs – minimum Grade C for English and Mathematics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent grasp of the English language
  • Good numerical skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Highly organised
  • Able to use Microsoft Office applications to a high standard, including Word and Excel
  • Independent and self-reliant being able to work without close supervision to deliver results

Digital Hardware Design Engineer
Work within the cross-functional R&D team to design new products, with particular responsibility for the electronic hardware design of digital products.
Main Activities / Tasks:
  • Be responsible for electronics design of digital products, from design to product in the warehouse, following existing Blackstar processes
  • Generate product schematics from a given product Design Brief
  • Produce PCB layouts from schematics, with respect to international EMC and safety approvals standards
  • Be a project manager on projects as an when required, communicating with OEMs in the Far East and the rest of the team in the UK
  • Produce engineering documentation for designs, following existing Blackstar processes
  • Approve engineering documentation and component requirements/selections
  • Update the R&D team daily, and provide written reports as and when required
  • Be a team member on projects as and when required in order to maximise design efficiency
  • Introduce any improvements into production in a fully planned, communicated and traceable manner via the Operations Department
  • Research new technology
  • Attend and lead project meetings
  • Communicate and create any new process required, or any amendments to existing processes that are found to be necessary
  • Supporting the Operations Department as and when necessary
  • Occasional travel to OEMs in the Far East if required
Essential Skills:
  • A degree in a relevant engineering subject
  • Proficient in the use of software packages for designing schematic diagrams and Printed Circuit Boards with High Speed design experience
  • Understanding of a detailed full-system design environment, with appropriate documentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Minimum 3 years' commercial design experience
  • Experienced in fault finding and diagnosis to component level
  • Skilled in the specification of suitable components
  • Project management experience
  • A structured engineering approach
  • Good detailed planning and project management skills
  • Diplomatic
  • Very methodical, organised and diligent record keeper
  • Team player - able to work well within a team and lead a project team with a ‘can-do’ attitude

  • Zuken CADSTAR Design software experience
  • Project management experience/knowledge of project management methodologies (PRINCE2 etc.)
  • Experience communicating with OEMs
  • An understanding of world-wide approvals and electronic equipment safety standards
  • Experience in or knowledge of audio, DSP and microcontroller hardware
  • Experience working with a software team
  • Working within a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) structure
  • Passion for electronics and the music industry
  • Experience of designing music related electronic products from Brief to Market
  • Guitar player, though by no means essential
