I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who can't stand the Blackbirds, I've never been happy with the tone of the mini stack but I knew what the HT-5 could do from watching Youtube, I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed that the V30 will show me what I've been missing.

As for the second speaker I was thinking about a G12H but I also like the harsher sound of the G12T, I suppose it all depends on how the V30 sounds in the Blackstar cab :?:

Yes, and the type of music that you prefer.

lol - you wont see me raving about the V30 either..i actually dont like them very much
especially by themselves - now pair them up with something else and they sound good
but stand alone?? - dont care for them...waaaay too much mids for me but that makes it cut through
paired with a G12T though...match made in heaven to me

Well I got an email saying the V30 will be with me tomorrow so we shall see, it sounds like my kind of tone judging from what I've heard on Youtube but I do wonder how the actual blackstar cabs will affect the sound, that and the open/closed back issue, I'll have good fun finding out though

Ok so I've been badmouthing Blackbirds without basis, seems my cabs had Celestion Seventy 80s...the good news is that the Vintage 30 destroys them, at first I wasn't sure but when I connected both cabs at once it was a clear difference, the V30 has significantly more top and mid range detail, the Seventy 80 is a flubbing piece of cardboard by comparison.

It's a bit louder but that's way less of a problem than I thought, even with the master volume barely cranked I can get a really good neighbour friendly tone, I still think I need more treble and grit though, I'll be ordering either a G12H or a G12T, any suggestions would be welcome :)

Thanks for the advice so far anyway, I'm a happy guy tonight.

G12T is a great match with V30
i would disagree though on the 70/80 - once broken in they can actually sound pretty good
but not as good as the match above

I'm possibly being harsh on the Seventy 80, it's more than likely just down to my tone preference, I'm a big fan of brighter, brash sounds, the Seventy 80s really didn't do it, I'm hunting youtube for clips but I'm still leaning towards the G12T-75 :)

^^^Agreed. 70/80's aren't bad at all!
I like the G12H matched w/ the V30, but can't say better than a G12T because I never had one nor played through one.

there are some comparisons on you tube of the v30 vs 12h vs 12t through a Rivera amp
i like the "T" because it compliments the v30 with really tight lows and nice clean highs wth the
mids scooped a little - adds nicely to the very strong mids of the v30 (the reason i dont care v30's)
the strong mids and upper mids of the v30 really help you cut through the mix but i just prefer
to do it with volume and have a more balanced spectrum of tone

in fact i have 2 "T's" that i have been sitting on for a while to swap out 2 of the 70/80's with but
have been too damn lazy and busy to do it but ive had that set up before with the v30's and loved it and think it
would work well in the stage 60 and the 70/80 with extra cab set up

but its all really subjuective - do what your ears tell you to do and the hell with all this advice - lol
