hi,
i bought the ht-60 stage and i'm very pleased.
i want to know if it's class a amp or ab
sent an e-mail to blackstar, got no repley.
thank's.
o.
can someone please answer me ...
KK - it really doesnt make a hill of beans difference what class it is if your ears like it....
simply put:
Quickly - Class A means that all the power devices (tubes or transistors) conduct for the full 360º of the wave cycle.
Class B requires two power devices operating in tandem, each of which conducts 180º of the wave cycle, which when summed together via a transformer or other means gives a 360º cycle
Class AB comes about when you bias your output devices to conduct for around 200º, as the region between low power and off tends to be rather unlinear, for the sake of decent quality reproduction you have the two halves of the output section duplicate a small section of the wave, so as one half shuts off the other half is already conducting linearly.
the sonic differences between those two types of amps is determined by more than the operational class o f the amp - they are several different classes of operation for amplifiers...

Remember, a "class" is just a system of operation, it does not reflect the sound quality of the amp.
