Pre-amp tube shootout this weekend.

I will be doing a comparison of a few different 12AX7 preamp tubes this weekend. The contenders will be the stock ones, Tung-sols, JJ's, Electro-Harmonix and Grove Tubes(if I can get them by then). I will also do a comparison between the stock 12AU7 and an Electro-Harmonix one. Here is a photo of th...

Re: Stage60 - OD1/OD2 Loud Hissing White Noise

Honestly, the Stage 60 is just a noisy amp. Not as noisy as a Peavy 5150 II but more so than a JCM2000 TSL or a Dual Rectifier. Get a good noise gate(MXR works well) and you should be ok.

Re: How does the Blackstar HT sound with V30's

I just got a pair of WGS Veteran 30's which are Vintage 30 clones but re-engineered a bit so that they don't have that upper mid spike. I will be installing them in my HT-60 this weekend after I have completed the preamp tube comparison recordings that I promised I'd do. I will also do an A-B compar...

Re: Effects for mt HT Stage 60???

M9 would be my recommendation as well. It is a good choice at its price point. M13 would not be a bad choice either. I just see the M9 as more to the point and less expensive. More practical I suppose. The problem with the M9 for him is that he wants to use the "4 cable method" and only the M13 sup...

Re: Questions from potential HT-60 owner

Also, my OD2 channel is noisy while idle but any high-gain channel will have some noise going along with it due to all that gain being piledriven into the amp...hope this helps and good luck! Rock on! Yes, the HT-60 overdrive channels are noisy. Not as noisy as a Peavey 5150 II that I had, but more...

Re: Effects for mt HT Stage 60???

How does it behave with the amp?Are you experiencing any tone loss? Have you tried 4 cable method with it? I am reluctant to go to M13 due to its size so i am hoping the POD HD500 is better variant, but I am worried about the tone lose in the chain.Lets see it is ordered and waiting for delivery :)...

Re: Effects for mt HT Stage 60???

I just got the Line 6 M13 stompbox modeler yesterday and it is pretty amazing. The thing is, I have realized that I don't really need it! I am most happy with just a noise gate and EQ- I'm gonna keep it simple. If anyone is interested in the M13 let me know, I'll sell it for $325(It retails for $499).

Re: Questions from potential HT-60 owner

It will only cost you about $25 to change the tubes in the pre-amp section so you might as well do it. I have Tungsols in mine but another good alternative would be JJ's. There are 5 tubes in the amp, 3 in the pre-amp and 2 in the power section. The power tubes should be lit evenly at all times whil...

Since you were a previous Line 6 owner, you might check out their M9 and M13 stompbox modelers. I tried one recently and was really impressed.

James Hetfield was playing a Blackstar Series One in the documentary "Lemmy"

A documentary about Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead called "Lemmy" just came out. In it James Hetfield of Metallica is playing a Blackstar Series One head when Metallica and Lemmy are rehearsing for a show. Its about 1:11 into the movie. Just thought I'd share...
